Senior adults have many positive assets to offer any church. They have wisdom, experience, time, resources, love, and perspective. The Bible is full of men and women in the sunset of life with such assets who were used by God to fulfill his purposes.
Here at Colonial Heights Baptist Church the main avenue for the mobilization of senior adults is Bible Fellowship. Not only do we have vibrant and caring classes for senior adults, many seniors believe they should be passing one their heritage of faith to others. Therefore they are involved throughout our church in various capacities. They can be found working on committees, teaching classes, serving as deacons, caring for the sick, witnessing to the lost, and supporting the church with prayers and finances.
Along with Bible Fellowship, the VIP organization exists as a place for fellowship, education outreach, and service for many seniors from our church as well as from the community at large. They meet together, eat together, travel together, and pray together. This group meets on the third Thursday of every month for a program and fellowship time. They also plan trips for the purposes of education, entertainment, and edification every month.
We recognize the fact that this is a time of great possibility. It is also a time when we must not neglect the incredible worth of each person in the work of the Kingdom of God. The Senior Adult ministry here at CHBaptist has been a tool used to harvest “senior souls” in our community for many years. I believe that trend will continue. I am excited about what God continues to do through this wonderful group of people.
